It appears that after a heavy bombardment in which the trenches on the North of ST YVES road and the two which are astride the road running east from the ESTAMINET held by LIEUT TRIMMERS's platoon were all badly damaged, it was against the latter two trenches that the attack was pushed home and eventually penetrated our line. LIEUT TRIMMER and his men appear to have fought to the last and all were killed except one man who was badly wounded. The enemy, about 60 of them, advanced about 50 yards West of the road but were forced to retire, LIEUTS ATCHINSON and WADE (HANTS REGT) having constructed a barricade on the road at the North End of the cutting and mounted a machine gun there. The Enemy did not attempt to establish themselves in the buildings.
